The Edexcel A Level Music course is structured into three main components: Performing, Composing, and Appraising. The two coursework elements are underperforming and composing.
Performing (30% of the qualification):
Recital Requirement: Students must perform a recital lasting at least 8 minutes. This performance can be as a soloist, ensemble, or through music technology (e.g., DJing). The expected performance standard is approximately Grade 7, however, grade 8 will award more marks. Multiple pieces can be performed to reach the minimum time however these all have to be recorded within a single recording
Composing (30% of the qualification):
Total Duration: Students must submit compositions totalling at least 6 minutes.
Free or Brief Composition:** One composition can be a free choice or selected from a list of briefs provided by Edexcel.
Technical Study: One technical study, which can include: Bach chorales, two-part counterpoint, arrangement, or remix. (Bach Chorales at Tring School)
