Unit 15:
Study various web development principles, including usability, accessibility, and responsive design.
Practice designing websites by creating wireframes and mockups.
Gain proficiency in web development languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Test websites for functionality, compatibility, and performance across different browsers and devices.
Review and evaluate websites against client requirements and user needs.
Computer science coursework is split into two sections unit 7 (system security) and unit 15 (Website design). Each with 2 assignments you will have to hand in. Time management is a key way to make sure the task is completed on time along with a strong understanding of the assignment brief.
Unit 7: Completed in year 13 as two assignments.
Unit Objective: Understand current IT security threats, information security, legal requirements, and cryptographic techniques to protect data.
Assignment 1 is a report to a company on modern threats to their information security it will include learning aims A and B.
Learning Aim A: Understand current IT security threats, information security, and the legal requirements affecting the security of IT systems.
Learning Aim B: Investigate cryptographic techniques and processes used to protect data.
Assignment 2 involves using your knowledge from assignment 1 to show how to set up multiple information security methods it will include learning aim C.
Learning Aim C: to achieve this you must, set up security controls on a given IT system, demonstrate encryption methods for securing data, document findings from your hands-on experience and provide a security improvement plan.
In the end, you will have gained a strong knowledge of system security for companies and common encryption algorithms used everywhere.
Unit 15: Completed in year 12 as two assignments
Unit Objective: Develop understanding and skills in website development, including design, implementation, testing, and review.
Assignment 1 is a report describing core website design principles and comparing/analysing their use in two websites. It will include learning aim A.
Learning Aim A: Understanding the principles of website design which involves exploring the purpose and principles of website development, understanding user needs, and considering factors affecting website performance.
Assignment 2 is a two-part assignment where you will design and create a website before analysing its effectiveness. It includes Learning Aims B and C.
Learning Aim B: The design and creation of a website. This is where you will be able to show skills you have learned in the use of HTML, CSS and JAVA to create an aesthetically pleasing and functional website.
Learning Aim C: Using your knowledge of website design principles you will analyse the website you created and suggest improvements to be made.
At the end, you will understand the principles of web design and how to use them to effectively create a useable website.
