As a Nursery through Grade 12 school, we serve a wide spectrum of ages. Within these different class years—and as individuals—students’ abilities to work independently vary greatly. A teacher-parent partnership is necessary for students to access online resources and fully engage in distance learning tasks; this especially applies to the Lower School division. We recognize that many parents have their own work expectations, scheduling needs, and/or more than one child to guide—we have framed Trevor’s expectations for parental involvement in distance learning with this in mind.

We ask parents for the following support:
Read all email updates from Trevor, including any from your child’s teachers or advisor.
Provide an environment conducive to learning. Designate a place in your home for your child to work on their assigned tasks and complete independent reading each day. Help students access the technology they need to connect and succeed.
Increase your familiarity with the Portal as Trevor’s primary site for communication. Log in here.
Discuss posted materials and assignments with your child.
Email your child's grade-level teacher or advisor if you or your child have questions, or if your child needs extra help or support. Our faculty will be online to help and support during normal school hours, and they will do their very best to respond in a timely manner.
All students are expected to participate in the TrevorLINK Distance Learning Plan on a daily basis and to the best of their household's ability. With the guidance of parents/guardians, students are expected to:
Participate in classes using Zoom, according to your regular school schedule.
Participate in advisor meetings using Zoom, as scheduled.
Complete all learning activities, assignments, and/or assessments by the announced deadline.
Submit your work on the Portal.
Stay physically active.
In exceptional circumstances or due to illness, parents of students who are unable to participate should notify the school⎼as they would for any school absence: Email attendance@trevor.org for the Middle and Upper School.
All students are expected to participate in the TrevorLINK Distance Learning Plan on a daily basis and to the best of their household's ability. With the guidance of parents/guardians, students are expected to:
Participate in daily meetings and classes during the suggested schedule, which mimics each student’s regular schedule. However, given that our younger students may need significant parent support with online activities, attendance for specific classes or meetings will not be required. As class activity times are suggested and are not strictly required, students may make up missed classes at later times in the day or week.
Submit your work on the Portal.
Stay physically active.
Should your child not be able to participate in the majority of a day’s activities, email Lily Shum and the grade-level teacher.
We will follow the regular school schedule. Show up on time, prepared with any needed materials, and ready to learn.
As soon as you log on, mute yourself. This will avoid any excess background noise such as your dog barking. (You might find yourself automatically muted—if not, please mute yourself.)
Wear appropriate clothing.
Do not use your phone or other devices while in an online class. Put your phone away!
Do not bring your laptop into the bathroom or to other inappropriate settings.
Do not eat while in an online class.
It is easy to get distracted on your computer. Remember, this is class and you are responsible for the material presented therein. Keep your connection open and do not navigate to other tabs unless directed by your teacher.
Make sure that the teacher is your main screen. You may want to pin the teacher to be the main focal point to ensure that you are not distracted by your peers.
If you have a question, use the "raise hand" feature or type “question” in the chat feature. Follow your teacher’s directions about how to ensure that your voice is heard. Do not interrupt while someone else is speaking. Alternatively, some teachers may prefer that you type a question directly into the chat feature.
Seeing yourself on a screen can be uncomfortable. Do not take a screenshot, picture, snapchat, etc. of your teacher or fellow students. Do not make any recordings. Such behaviors violate our Acceptable Use Policy and will result in disciplinary action.
Do not interfere with your classmates’ learning. Please do all you can to support this process.
Remember that you are responsible for this learning, just as you would be if we were together in school.
