Online access to books and stories
Public Library e-books and e-audiobooks.
· If you have a library card from the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library, or other public library, you can access their e-book collections from home using the Libby app.
· If you don’t have a public library card, New York State residents who are over the age of 13 can sign up for a Brooklyn Public Library card online here.
Epic Books: thousands of e-books including many with read along options. Families can sign up for access for 30 days. Contact Ms. Kaufmann (ekaufmann@trevor.org) for access through the end of the year. The site has lots of popular titles including Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Akissi, Breaking Cat News, Scaredy Squirrel, and Big Nate.
Audible: Audible has made hundreds of kids audiobooks available for free in 6 languages. These include books by J.K. Rowling, Dan Gutman, Shannon Hale, and many others.
Grim, Grimmer, Grimmest (podcast): If you like scary stories, check out this podcast by Adam Gidwitz, bestselling author of A Tale Dark and Grimm.
Scholastic Learn at Home: Fiction and nonfiction books on a related topic are paired together, along with related activities. Options for PK through 9th grade.
Toon Books: A collection of comics published by Toon Books are available online. Includes reading independently and “read to me” options.
Follett Lightbox: This resource focuses on nonfiction titles, including many in Spanish. Contact Ms. Kaufmann for login instructions.
KidLitTV Read Out Loud: A great selection of picture books read by the author. Ready Set Draw! includes drawing activities by children’s book illustrators.
Storyline Online: Picture books read by actors. Readers include Oprah Winfrey, Betty White, Esai Morales, and Wanda Sykes.
Tumblebooks: a database of e-books and read alongs for elementary school students.
Sora: Digital Library
Trevor now has a digital collection of books available through Sora.
Sora can be accessed on most devices. You will need your student’s Trevor email address and password to login.
To read on a chromebook or other computer, go to: https://soraapp.com/library/trevordayny
To read on a smartphone or ipad, download Sora from the App Store or Google Play and use setup code trevordayny.
To read on a Kindle, first follow the instructions for setting up access on a computer. Once you are logged in, go to “General settings” (under the menu on the upper right corner). Next go to "I read books," and click or tap “in Sora.” Click or tap “on my Kindle (U.S. only).” Please note, some books, particularly those with color pictures, may not be available to read on a Kindle.
