The Operations Group strives to build a team of volunteers who are knowledgeable of various languages, interested in different cultures, and can support team projects. We want to create and establish processes that enable our volunteers across the world to collaborate effectively on our growing projects and we are always looking for new colleagues that can contribute their expertise.

Translators, Localization Group

Translators, Localization Group (Volunteer)

The Translation Commons Localization Group is looking for volunteer Translators to work remotely on various projects depending on their experience, availability, and specializations. The translators translate materials ranging from articles and videos to technical documentation. This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to an international volunteer organization and to share your expertise with less experienced volunteers. If chosen for this role, your name will be placed in the list of contributors to the translated document alongside other professionals.

This is a volunteer and remote opportunity.

Current projects require translation from English and French into various languages.

The target language varies on a per-project basis. This means that there may not be a project for your language pair at any given time, and volunteer work is not guaranteed. However, signing up will put you into our database to be contacted when a project in need of your language pair arises. This opportunity is open to students as well.

Responsibilities include:

  • Learning how to work in the Translation Management System utilized by the project manager;

  • Translating the segment(s) of the source material assigned to you by the project manager into the target language in accordance with the language resources (termbase, style guide);

  • Joining weekly/biweekly meetings with other project members;

General qualifications:

  • Native speaker of the target language;

  • Ability to commit to translating at least 500 words per week.

Reviewers, Localization Group

Reviewers, Localization Group (Volunteer)

The Translation Commons Localization Group is looking for volunteer Reviewers to work remotely on various projects depending on their experience, availability, and specializations. Reviewers examine and correct translations already in the project pipeline. The projects range from articles and videos to technical documentation. This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to an international volunteer organization and to share your expertise with less experienced volunteers. If chosen for this role, your name will be placed in the list of contributors to the translated document alongside other professionals.

This is a volunteer and remote opportunity.

  • Ability to commit to reviewing at least 500 words per week.

South Plug

The Translation Commons Localization Group is looking for remote volunteer Translators and Reviewers to help us translate and review texts for our current project: South Plug. South Plug is a platform based in Chile that aims to create, share, and display ideas/projects related to electronic music and art from the south of the world (https://southplug.cl/es). Translators and reviewers will be working with editorial blog texts.

This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to the dissemination of art coming from the south of the world within an international volunteer organization. This role will also give you the opportunity to share your knowledge with less experienced volunteers. The Translation Commons Localization Group is looking for volunteer remote Localization Project Managers to coordinate localization projects to ensure consistency, quality, and efficient turnaround of deliverables. This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to an international volunteer organization and to share your expertise with less experienced volunteers. Responsibilities include:.

  • Working with the Account Managers to establish the scope of project, including project type and schedule;

  • Preparing and formatting project files, when necessary;

  • Working with Language Leads to determine which language professionals are the right fit for the project;

  • Coordinating and hosting project kickoff meetings so there is an opportunity to answer questions before project start;

  • Creating and documenting all project info where necessary (Translation Management System, Google Drive);

  • Coordinating meetings with the language professionals to gauge progress and answer questions;

  • Recording all issues and troubleshoot solutions when possible;

  • Proactively communicate with project members to ensure they are given all necessary tools and permissions to do their job well;

  • Acting as liaison between your team and the broader group;

  • Enabling, encouraging, and driving the team.

Translation Commons is looking for a creative and motivated leader to take up the volunteer position of Account Handling Group Manager. Each group has two managers working in conjunction with each other to establish and manage a team of volunteers to fulfill the functions of the Account Handling Group. This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to an international volunteer organization and to share your expertise.

The Account Handling Group is responsible for fulfilling the account handling of Translation Commons’ partners that seek language services provided by Translation Commons.

Through this position, you will learn the inner workings of the account management department of a non-profit organization focused on languages. This role will help you pursue careers in account management and customer relationship management.

  • Working with the group advisor to develop and improve frameworks and communication channels for the different processes within the Account Handling Group;

Program Manager, Language Digitization Initiative

Program Manager, Language Digitization Initiative (volunteer)

The Language Digitization Initiative in Translation Commons aims to enable digital support for all the world's languages to ensure all linguists, languages and cultures participate fully on the internet. The team has several projects ongoing, such as creating resources, training material, tools, courses and communities of practice amongst indigenous peoples, academic researchers and professors.

We are looking for Project Managers to help us organize the many projects, liaise with our Advisors and Experts as well as share with our other teams progress and news. Different projects have various responsibilities. Some involve virtual online event organization, some involve writing and social media and some involve technical documentation working with experts. All projects have teams involved that meet weekly or bi-weekly. Weekly commitment required is a minimum of 5 hours.

Program Manager, Child Safety Online Program (volunteer)

This project’s mission is to create and deliver the message of child safety online for marginalized communities in a way that would be understood by these communities, more specifically by children, and will also give information on how to seek help and/or report abuse. Specifically volunteers will be ensuring that all messages are culturally adapted to reach marginalized communities and be clearly understood.

The social media manager will aid our partner Interpreter Commons in creating a social media strategy involving Twitter, LinkedIn, possibly using OBSProject.com for the streaming services to satisfy their marketing needs.

Through this position, you will learn how a non-profit organization focused on languages uses technology and social media to further their mission and goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with Interpreter Commons to address their social media marketing needs, including but not limited to creating a social media strategy involving Twitter and LinkedIn and using OSBProject.com or other platforms to provide streaming services.

  • Complete other marketing-related jobs based on client’s needs.

The Communications Group is responsible for fulfilling the internal and external communications needs of Translation Commons. This includes content management, writing, and editing, documentation and terminology management, branding, and more.

Through this position, you will learn the inner workings of the communications department of a non-profit organization focused on languages. This role will help you pursue careers in content writing, public relations, graphic design, website content management, and more.

Campaign Content Manager, Communications Group (Volunteer)

Translation Commons is looking for a driven, proactive and organized person to take up the role of Campaign Content Manager. This position delegates, creates and strategizes the written content that will be created in their campaign. The Campaign Content Manager will ensure that every member of their team is motivated and given support when needed. This will generate ideas for written content related to the topic of their campaign and will organize deadlines and timeframes to have a constant flow of published content. The person in this position will also be responsible for knowing the topic of their campaign in depth, in order to ensure that the content being produced is appropriate for their campaign.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delegating tasks to Content Writer volunteers to ensure the functioning of the Campaign;

  • Be a source of knowledge about the topic related to your campaign;

Content Writer, Communications Group (Volunteer)

Translation Commons is looking for intuitive and creative writers to take up the investigative role of Content Writer in our Communications Group. This position will investigate the latest news and information related to the Campaign topic they will be writing under. All content is related to the Language Industry and there are several content campaigns: Endangered Languages, Language and Culture, Terminology in Pop Culture, Translation Industry News, LDI Campaign (a special program made up of several language projects), and Translation Commons News. Content Writers are responsible for creating the content that is posted on the TC blog.

This is a volunteer and remote opportunity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Campaign Manager and other Content Creators in your campaign to come up with creative content and article ideas;

  • Research, investigate and discover new and interesting topics that are related to your campaign to write about;

  • Carry out interviews when needed depending on the topics being written about;

  • Be a source of knowledge about the topic related to your Campaign;

  • Be a source of creativity by offering suggestions for new and exciting projects for Translation Commons;

  • Work with the Editing Team to review and fine tune written content;

  • Create articles and news updates related to the topic of your campaign.

Country Geo Manager, Globalization Group

Job Title: Country Geo Manager

Group: Globalization Group

Reports to: Globalization Group Managers

Description of Role:

The Globalization Group supports the globalization requirements of Translation Commons’ products. The main goal of this role is to provide cultural and industry insight which will enhance Translation Commons’ efforts to create the best-localized products. Country Geo Managers have an interest in globalization and translation and they are knowledgeable about the culture and the language of the country they represent.

As a country Geo Manager, you will be part of driving the future roadmap of globalization of Translation Commons products. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills and expand your knowledge. While collaboration with peers will allow you to forge strong professional relationships and expand your network.


This is a volunteer and remote opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Managing the overall strategy of the given language/country.

· Working closely with external and internal stakeholders and partners to help create the best-localized content and experience.

· Building relationships with local universities and translation organizations and advocating Translation Commons mission and products.

· Supporting the development of linguistic and cultural standards: style guides, glossaries and content.

· Supporting the development of a global industry database: local organizations, universities, industry events, etc.

· Staying well-informed about the industry news in their country.

Skills/ Requirements:

· Availability to meet with Globalization Managers at least once a month.

· Availability to attend industry events to network and introduce/represent TC.

· Based in the country they represent.

· Native fluency in the language(s) of the country + fluent English.

· Strong knowledge of the country’s culture, history and customs.

· Strong knowledge of or interest in the translation/ localization industry.

· Self-starter - the ability to show initiative and work independently.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desired experience:

· Ideally, experience in the translation/ localization industry as a linguist, PM or other roles.

Time Commitment:

· Time per week is flexible, depending on the objectives and workload, but expected to be 2-3 hours per week.

Description of Role:

Translation Commons is looking for an organized individual to take up the volunteer position of Task Coordinator in order to facilitate communication between teams. The Task Coordinator will take and organize the requests of our team members and send those requests to the correct team.

Operations in Translation Commons is responsible for fulfilling the operational needs of Translation Commons. This includes managing the various functional groups.

Through this position, you will learn the inner workings of the operations department of a non-profit organization focused on languages. This role will help you pursue careers in communications, Human Resources, and operations management.


This is a volunteer and remote opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Being the central point of contact for requests by team members that need help from other teams in Translation Commons;

· Organizing these requests in a ticketing system or task management system;

· Sending these requests to the corresponding team or team member;

· Updating the status of each request when necessary;

· Following up on requests in order to ensure they are being handled.

Skills/ Requirements:

· Being a super-organizer and able to use task management tools to organize effectively;

This person will motivate all TC volunteers and incorporate their feedback into our volunteer programs and services. This is a great opportunity for you to gain valuable experience within a thriving international non-profit organization. You will work together with the Talent Coordination and Group Managers to implement talent engagement plans.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implement and refine volunteer engagement plan to build and maintain lasting relationships with volunteers

  • Provide exceptional customer service to ensure volunteer satisfaction

  • Guide volunteers on how to get recognized and how to represent their experience on their resume

  • Connect with volunteers in one-on-one meetings regularly to discuss their satisfaction level with team choice, workload, and other interest in TC (schedule meeting if necessary)
