SHOW THE LOVE - What a great event with lots of stalls. The Rotary Club of Towcester was there with a display on what Rotary is doing towards saving the environment. Rtn Allan and Rtn John were on hand to explain the 'steps' the Rotary Club are taking in Towcester. This relates to 'Treekly' where your steps can help towards reducing C02 in the atmosphere.

HELP SAVE THE PLANET .
FOOD WASTE 🍔 November 2023
One third of food produced for human consumption is wasted. 1.3 billion tons a year.
In poor countries mainly due to poor production and distribution processes.
In rich countries due to retail aesthetics and over buying/stocking.
Food manufacture creates high CO2 emissions - particularly for meat.production.
To provide 2 quarter pound burgers a day creates the same CO2 emission as heating the average house.
At the recent Project Review meeting, the Club agreed to support the Rotary-Treekly Centenary Challenge. Details of the Challenge are attached.
Treekly was set up by 2 Rotarians from Norwich, the aim is to help people connect to an environmental project and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
Treekly works with Eden Rainforestation Projects who plant mangrove forests in areas which have been destroyed by deforestation.
Mangroves are 3 times more effective than rainforests removing CO2 and they improve water quality..So far Eden has planted 700 million trees in 8 countries.
You can personally join Treekly online but to stimulate interest our District has launched the Centenary Challenge where we can form a team within a Club for £100 for 5 participants.
We will enter a team and keep everyone up to date with the programme.
This year we will have ordered the Polio Plus Crocus Corms which support the Rotary Purple for Polio campaign. They come in packs of 4,000 (which we divide around the club for a small fee which goes towards and is credited to the Rotary Foundation).
We will be offering packs of 100 for £5 to our members
As you know we have several locations around Towcester which are Maturing year by year. These include Brackley Road, Several Schools and the Tove Valley Centre.
Tesco have also agreed to work with us to make use of discarded plants, this should be a great Environmental project and again will benefit our community.
The Bell Plantation have offered to provide a Tree for planting in the Water Meadows to mark the Coronation of King George 2023 Full details still to be arranged.
