Family Resources

Welcome to our family resources for our RES Gifted Learners! Please enjoy the following resources to give you more tools to support your gifted and high achieving learners.

Gifted youth don't come with a handbook or manual to help parents understand their needs

Our TISD GT Parent Advisory Council (GT PAC) is a parent association designed to offer support and assistance. This support may include program planning, mentorship, independent study programs, and professional learning opportunities.

Although each campus has a designated GT PAC Rep, any GT parent is always welcome to attend these meetings.

The 2023_24 Rosehill Elementary School GT PAC Representatives are Kelly Gerszewski & Blaire Pancake Koehl

GT PAC Meeting locations:

TISD Staff Development Center at 1302 Keefer Rd., Tomball, TX 77375

I am Gifted

A look into what it's like to be gifted.

I AM GIFTED

by Cathy Eng (CPES)

GT project-based learning opportunities are conducted throughout the year. Ever wonder why GT students investigate and work on project-based activities? This year, projects will be based on grade level identified Texas Performance and Standard Projects, Toshiba Exploravision, or other Project Based learning investigation.

GT Tasks for the primary grade levels have two components:

Phase I, Learning Experiences, is a suggested series of TEKS based lessons and performances to be used in large groups, in small groups, and/or individually.

Phase I allows students to work with advanced content and processes through a discipline-based research model. Phase I is developmental and formative and includes development of social and emotional skills. Social and Emotional learning includes development of meta-cognitive awareness, resilience, and growth mindset skills. These skills are foundational to a successful experience in advanced academics and real world success.

In Phase II, In-Depth Research, students utilize and extend their learning from Phase I to participate in a deeper learning experience. In-Depth research provides students with opportunities to collaborate, synthesize learning, apply knowledge to a novel situation, and provide an advanced, high-quality demonstration of the student’s knowledge and skills. During this phase, students learn to apply depth and complexity with their analysis as they work to investigate, synthesize, and ultimately present their learning to others.

Below are some expected projects conducted in various grade levels. All grade levels will initiate GT services with Phase I instruction and transition to Phase II as the year progresses.

1st Grade

Students will build fundamental skills through blended learning activities, instant challenges, collaboration activities, and setting the foundation for extended learning and depth and complexity in their future academic studies.

2nd Grade

Students will explore their own passion(s) through an inquiry-based approach called Genius Hour. This student-directed learning approach gives students an opportunity to look at the wide world around them and explore their own unique interests in a less structured, yet supported, way. They choose what they study, how they study it, and what they produce or create as a result.

3rd & 4th Grades

Students will participate in the Texas Performance Standards Project

and at least one book study.

Getting to know your child can be a struggle sometimes, especially when kids are not likely to elaborate on their day or feelings.

Here are some questions you can use to get some insight from your child:

1. What is your happiest memory?

2. What is your proudest accomplishment?

3. What are you most grateful for?

4. What do you wish your parents knew about you?

5. What do you wish your friends knew about you?

6. What are your goals for this school year?

7. What kinds of things do you worry about?

8. Who do you talk to when you are worried or upset? Does it help?

9. Where do you feel the safest to just be yourself? Why?

10. What does failure feel like? What are some ways to learn from failure?

11. What is something nice you can say about yourself?

12. What do you do when you are feeling down?

13. What is something that an adult has said to you that really stuck with you? Do you think they're right?

14. What do you like about yourself?

15. If you had one wish, what would it be?

What is Depth and Complexity? If you've wanted to know what the Depth and Complexity framework is, this video will explain it to you!
