Our Mission
In partnership with other local organizations, Nevada Teacher Corps will play an important role in addressing the educational injustices that disproportionately impact low-income communities across our state.
In partnership with other local organizations, Nevada Teacher Corps will play an important role in addressing the educational injustices that disproportionately impact low-income communities across our state.
We believe that if we are going to truly live up to our full potential, then there is no other option but to do better for our children. While students across Nevada must overcome significant barriers on a daily basis, we know that our students and communities are strong, and we know that a different vision for reality is possible.

Our students have clear plans for their futures, yet students are graduating high school unprepared for the lives they envision for themselves. Most students do what they're asked to do in school but are still not ready to succeed after school. Through our work, we strive to ensure that our teachers are equipped to provide students with increased access to four key resources necessary to improve student achievement and access to pathways to opportunity:

Our program is designed to prepare exceptional teachers for the students who need them most — those in our country’s most disadvantaged communities, where systemic inequities and individual prejudices deny too many children access to a great education.

Our teachers acknowledge the immense challenges of poverty but reject its limitations. They believe that every lesson has the power to inspire, every hour in the classroom is precious, and every student has the potential to succeed. They know that having even one top teacher can shape students’ lives well into the future.

Of course, it’s not easy to defy the odds, and great teaching doesn’t happen overnight. We approach our training and support for NTC fellows in five distinct phases:
Of course, it’s not easy to defy the odds, and great teaching doesn’t happen overnight. We approach our training and support for NTC fellows in five distinct phases:
- Enrollment: This stage focuses on laying the foundation for your work at pre-service training by focusing on understanding the program, preparing to be hired, and beginning to build your content and pedagogical knowledge prior to teaching summer school
- Pre-Service Training: This stage takes place from the end of May through the beginning of July in Las Vegas (M-F from approximately 8am-6pm Pacific) and includes a hybrid approach to coursework, student teaching field experience, and coaching.
- Gear Up: Fellows who successfully complete Pre-Service Training will attend one additional week of training designed to prepare for the launch of the school year. This takes place in mid to late July, and is expected to be conducted in-person.
- Academy Year: Academy Year includes coaching, online licensure coursework, and in-person seminars held once monthly throughout the academic year. Fellows who successfully complete Academy Year will gain recommendation for their standard teaching license.
