ADDITIONAL CONTEXT ABOUT THE INITIAL ENROLLMENT TASKS
Contact Information: This task is a simple form that requires you to enter emergency contact information. We will be spending a good amount of time together in-person this summer, so we want to be sure we know who to contact should an emergency occur.
Social Security Number: This task is a simple form requires you to enter your Social Security Number into our secure platform. We know that there understandably are sometimes concerns with sharing this information with our program. There are two main reasons that we ask for this information:
Individuals who join AmeriCorps: One of the benefits of being a part of Nevada Teacher Corps is that you may be eligible to join AmeriCorps. In exchange for your service in your classroom, which includes completing a service learning project with your students, you will be eligible for an education award voucher, which can be used to pay past student loans or tuition for future studies. While you cannot use this award to pay your Nevada Teacher Corps tuition, you may be eligible to put current student loans in forebearance and divert that payment amount toward your NTC tuition. To join AmeriCorps and access these benefits, we must have access to your SSN. Access more information on AmeriCorps here.
Background Checks: There are a few different background check processes that you must complete: one for student teaching in the summer, one for employment, and one for state licensure. The Clark County School District allows us to transfer your fingerprints from their records directly to the Nevada Department of Education's records to eliminate the need for that third set of fingerprints (provided that the original fingerprints were taken in the CCSD office). To ensure that they are able to verify that the correct fingerprints are sent, they match our participants' SSN to the fingerprinting records that they have on file.
Again, we do understand that your SSN is sensitive information and there may be some discomfort with sharing this information at this point in time. Please know that our local program team will not have access to this information and we take great care in securely storing this information. If you have concerns or would like to talk this through with a member of our team, please reach out to us at support@nevadateachercorps.org.
