The Lincoln Academy's Community Service Day (often called Service Learning Day) is an annual event where students engage in various projects, both on and off campus, to support the Beloit community, involving activities like helping at farms, creating care kits, and volunteering with local organizations, fostering leadership and responsibility as part of their work-based learning
A small group of scholars in the Construction program designed and built Buddy Benches for the elementary playground. Through research and the design process, scholars developed benches that incorporate plants to encourage social interaction and create a welcoming play environment. Scholars completed the full project cycle by drafting designs, developing a materials list, and coordinating the purchase of supplies through a visit to Menards.
Scholars in Construction Class built dog houses for the Wisconsin Humane Society. The dog houses were donated for pets in need. The class designed the dog houses for all season and are built to last.
The Lincoln Acadmey partnered with the local YMCA Chapter to design and build custom Bag Board sets for an annual tournament the YMCA hosts to raise money. TLA was tasked with making 20 bag sets for the tournament. TLA turned to the CNC router to do most of the work. All that was left was to assemble, sand and finish.
Scholars in the Construction program designed and built an aquaponics system in partnership with K4 classrooms to support hands-on learning in sustainable food production. High school scholars engineered the system with age-appropriate accessibility in mind, ensuring the height and layout allow K4 scholars to safely interact with the system. Through this project, K4 scholars actively manage the aquaponics tank, learning how to raise fish and grow crops in a sustainable environment. Scholars harvest lettuce grown in the system and enjoy the produce in class while learning about nutrition, environmental stewardship, and the benefits of growing their own food.
Scholars at The Lincoln Acadmey build sheds every year for people in the community. These sheds have served multiple purposes like storage at a local Apple Orchard, or even being built for the hit TV series "Betting on Beloit" where the shed was custom built for a home being renovated on the show. Scholars in TLA's Construction Classes take pride in building custom reliable sheds. In TLA's short 4 years, the school has built over 6 sheds for community members.
Scholars at The Lincoln Acadmey designed a custom ADA accessible planter box for scholars in wheel chairs to work at. This custom design allows for mobility around the school as well as the comfort of fitting a wheel chair under the planter. This way scholars with specials needs can experience the joy of planting!
Scholars at The Lincoln Academy are designing and fabricating an electronically controlled scissor lift style changing table to assist in changing a scholar with special needs. When this table is complete, the aids will no longer need to bend down to care for the scholar in need. This is a passion project for the few scholars working on it.
The Lincoln Acadmey has built multiple chicken coops for families in the community to raise chickens as sustainable sources of food. The coops are built and then delivered onsite. The coops have room for 5 nesting boxes and are equipped with power and lighting for all seasons.
Make48 is a 48-hour competition where teams are presented with a challenge and tasked to build a physical prototype, create a sales sheet, produce a 1-minute marketing video and pitch their big idea to a panel of judges.
The Lincoln Acadmey hosted the Make48 Competition in 2022 and 2023. The Lincoln Academy partnered with local industry to host this event. The Technology Education Program hosted the events competition and staffed the "Tool Techs". The Lincoln Acadmey also chaired two teams to compete in the competitions.
