PHASE A: MAPPING OUT THE PROBLEM TREE
The complete guide on how to use the Problem tree template can be found on the concept creator's website: Stories For Impact.
You can print the tree out or we suggest an environment-friendly option to use an online whiteboard like Miro, Canva, Figma etc.
Our example of the problem tree was created as a result of the survey and literature analysis conducted as part of the project. Space has been left here to add your own ideas, causes and consequences in discussion with your team. You can also create your own tree from scratch.
After identifying the causes: circle the causes your organisation will focus on.
After identifying the consequences: circle the consequences that your organisation will address.
Distribute over the grid causes and/or consequences that you circled in Step 1.
What are the most serious causes? Which consequences are of most concern?
Prioritize factors more clearly and focus on the goal.
Which causes or consequences you can address on your own?
Where will your organisation not be able to reduce the impact of negative factors on its own?
What partnerships you might need?
Which causes and consequences are getting better, which are getting worse and which are staying the same?
