Autumn Term 2023: Week 4 29.09.23

Week 4

Earlier this week, we welcomed Reception families into school for a 'Play and Learn Together Session.' Thank-you to all the families who joined us - it was lovely to see the children showing you how they learn in school. I loved seeing the children teaching phonics to their grown ups.

Aquamarine's class assembly this week was based on doing the right thing and having a good moral compass. Mrs Ryan loved how intelligently the children spoke on this subject.

Volunteering in School

We are currently building up a group of volunteers who can help out in different ways in school. If you have some spare time and would like to support our learners in class, hearing them read or supporting on educational visits please contact the school office who will pass your information onto Mrs Ryan.

Making Me

On Monday, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 assemblies were lead by Helen from Making Me. She spoke to the children about how important it is to use words to express our feelings and who we could ask for help from.

On Wednesday Key Stage 2 children all took part in workshops where they explored the theme of resilience.

Over the year there will be several more workshops to support year 6 in the build up to SATs and also their transition to year 7. In school we will be following the programme to develop our children's emotional literacy.

Houses

On Tuesday, Mr Wisbey introduced our new house names and events which we have planned for this year to the children.

Our new house names link to the different areas in Houghton Regis: Bidwell, Thorn, Puddlehill and Sewell.

As well as new house names the children have been voting for the adult in school who they would like to be house leaders. These were announced in assembly today: Bidwell - Miss Sharp; Thorn - Mr Hill; Puddlehill - Mr Wisbey and Sewell - Mr Holloway.

Attendance

Whole School Attendance this week: 95.2%

Overall Whole School Attendance: 95.68%

Whole school attendance is continuing to improve. As a school we are aiming for at least 97% attendance. Please help us to achieve this by ensuring your child is on time to school and only off when they are unwell.

If we have identified that your child is persistently absent (over 10% absence) and that this is a pattern which has continued from last academic year, we will be speaking to you to see if there are any further ways in which we can support your family.
