General Circulation:
Students are recommended to check out one book at a time and may have a maximum of 2 items on their library account. Students may checkout one DVD or one non-fiction book with their reading book. Exceptions are made for curriculum materials and at the Librarian's discretion. Occasionally, we may implement a maximum of 1 item for younger classes to help them develop good book borrowing habits.
Students participating in Accelerated Reader (AR) are encouraged to checkout one book, and complete the quiz of that book, before returning it to borrow a new one. AR students are permitted to change books if they do not like the book they chose. If they have space on their account, AR students may checkout one DVD or one non-fiction book with their AR book for personal enjoyment or study.
Books must be returned within 3 weeks. If books are not returned, and the maximum number of checkouts is reached, a student may not check out more books until they have returned their previous one(s). Instead, they may either enjoy books in the library OR they may ask their teacher to allow them to check out books to their class library account for in class use only.
Books can be renewed once before they must be returned for circulation. A book cannot be renewed if a reservation has been placed on that book.
Students may only checkout one DVD at a time. A student cannot checkout a DVD without a book.
Students may place temporary reservations on available books by giving the book to the Librarian to place on the hold shelf.
Unless a parent gives written permission, students must be in Year 6 to check out Year 6 books. Year 6 books are marked with a gold sticker on their spine and may have language or themes that are not well suited to younger readers.
Unless given special permission, students may not take out teacher resources or reference materials.
Classrooms have their own Library accounts with a generous checkout limit. Contact the Librarian if you are a staff member with questions about your staff library account.
Lost and Damaged Books
Students are responsible for their library books and curriculum books.
Books are considered lost if not returned after two months. Students may be asked to pay for their lost or damaged items.
Damaged books (liquid, pen, crayon, ripped pages) must be shown to the Librarian to determine if the book can be repaired or must be replaced. Please do not try to fix books at home, as we have special materials to repair the damage.
Be book aware. Do not share your library book with others. Do not place your book in your backpack beside your water bottle or on damp surfaces. Avoid tearing or writing on pages. Consider keeping your library book in a plastic book bag to keep it safe until you can return it.
Most of all…
Enjoy reading your books!
If you have a problem, let the Librarian know about it so that we can figure it out together.
