Congratulations on taking a powerful action toward racial justice in our country!
“Writing for Race Equity” is a group postcard-writing campaign for calling on elected officials to eradicate racism in America. Designed in a streamlined, one-stop format, it is a free, safe, simple-to-use one month process for an Organizer and any number of Participants. With basic computer skills and a few hours of time, anyone can watch the introductory YouTube video, follow the Instructions and use the postcard Message Templates. The Organizer will have some initial steps to do before the campaign actually begins. Then the four campaign weeks consist of: Launch Week, Writing Week and two consecutive Mailing Weeks.
Why postcards? Legislators’ office staffers tell us that postcards are the most effective method for conveying constituent messages, for reasons explained in the campaign materials.*
Writing for Race Equity…
Is inexpensive
Is non-political (not supporting any party)
Takes only a few hours, spread over one month
Is educational
Feels good as an exercise of First Amendment rights
Was created by people with legislative action experience
Can be done socially distanced
We designed this postcard action to be done with any circle of like-minded friends, neighbors, coworkers, a scout troop, faith community group, class of students, book club, civic club or any other group of racial justice supporters.
This Writing for Race Equity campaign focuses on law enforcement reform. To make an even stronger impact for race equity, the campaign can be repeated over successive months on different race equity topics e.g. voter suppression, the wealth gap, the education gap or health care as a human right.
