Sora FAQ
How do I access the TSC digital library with Sora?
Visit soraapp.com, click on the Sora app on your TSC ipad, or download the free Sora app on your personal device, and sign-in with your TSC email and password to start borrowing digital books! For more guidance, follow this guide to getting started with Sora. For help logging-in or setting passwords contact helpdesk@theschool.columbia.edu. If you need help navigating Sora, please contact your TSC librarian at library@theschool.columbia.edu.
How does it work?
You can borrow up to 3 ebooks or audio books at a time. No need to worry about remembering to return—titles automatically return at the end of the 2-week lending period. You can renew a book if you'd like more time, or request a hold if a book you want is unavailable. Sora automatically syncs reading progress on any device you log-in on. So, if you're reading with Sora on your laptop, and you want to read one more chapter before bed on your phone, Sora will know exactly where you left off. You can create lists of your favorite books or of books you'd like to read, take notes, keep track of your reading progress, and even earn achievement badges.
What kind of books will I find on Sora?
Like the TSC physical library, Sora has a wide variety of picture books, fiction, and non-fiction books—everything from favorite series like Mercy Watson, Frog and Toad, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Harry Potter, to classics, new releases, books about science, art, and sports, as well as books with ideas for activities and projects, cook books, and much more. Once you’ve signed up for an ecard through New York, Brooklyn, and Queens Public Libraries, you can also add those libraries to your Sora account to access their digital collections all in one place. Not sure where to start? Browse one of the collections created by TSC Librarians, like Own Voices, Sports, Science, Social Justice, and Great Reads for K-2 Students.
