Structure - Baby Bear's Chair
Year 2 children will be planning, designing and making a chair for Baby Bear inspired by the book 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'.
Skills that will be taught:
Identifying man-made and natural structures.
Identifying stable and unstable structural shapes.
Contributing to discussions.
Identifying features that make a chair stable.
Working independently to make a stable structure, following a demonstration.
Explaining how their ideas would be suitable for Baby Bear.
Producing a model that supports a teddy, using the appropriate materials and construction techniques.
Explaining how they made their model strong, stiff and stable.
Spring
Cooking and nutrition - Balanced Diet
Year 2 children will be tasting different fruits and vegetables to plan, design and make their own healthy wraps.
Skills that will be taught:
Naming the main food groups and identifying foods that belong to each group.
Describing the taste, feel and smell of a given food.
Thinking of three different wrap ideas, considering flavour combinations.
Constructing a wrap that meets the design brief and their plan.
Summer
Mechanisms - Fairground Wheel
Year 2 children will be planning, making and evalutaing a ferris wheel with a rotating wheel.
Skills that will be taught:
Designing and labeling a wheel.
Considering the designs of others and making comments about their practicality or appeal.
Considering the materials, shape, construction and mechanisms of their wheel.
Labeling their designs.
Building a stable structure with a rotating wheel.
Testing and adapting their designs as necessary.
Following a design plan to make a completed model of the wheel
