In year 7 students are taught in tutor groups. Thereafter sets are decided based on attitude to learning and attainment in biannual tests. Set moves will only normally take place as students start each year. It is therefore important that students prepare properly for assessments and use them as an opportunity to identify topics and skills they need to work on. Additional information about content and preparation for these assessments can be found here.
Within each set (number) there are a number of classes (letters), these classes are, so far as is possible, identical. This means that students in , for example, 8y1a have similar attainment to students in set 8x1b and will be taught exactly the same material. In the lower school students in different sets will be taught the same material but the level of support provided will be altered to meet the varying needs of the students. This means it is entirely possible for students to move from set to set as required.
To provide stability wherever possible sets and teachers are retained throughout Year 10 and into Year 11.
