All students complete GCSE science qualifications. The exam board used for all science qualifications is AQA. Our curriculum is designed to prepare students to pass either:
GCSE Combined Science Trilogy, leading to the award of two GCSEs
or
GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics. This route is often called seperate sciences
Approximately one third of students complete the route leading to the award of 3 GCSEs. Either route is suitable for students wishing to study science at A level; though the additional material in the separate science route makes the transition between qualifications easier.
The decision about which route each student follows is made after the Year 9 summer exams and is based on attainment in both the January and Summer exams as well as a class teacher assessment of attitude to learning.

All students follow a common syllabus for the first 3 years. Thereafter students are streamed according to the qualification that is most suitable for them with those completing an extra GCSE covering the additional content within their normal science lessons.
