Countries in Africa

Let's look at the different countries in Africa

Below are 2 different types of maps of Africa. The top 2 are from your textbook and the bottom right is from the Twinkle website. Based on what you learned yesterday, which one is the POLITICAL map? 

As you can see the first map is very different to the political map. It is called a Physical Map, as it shows the physical features of the area in realistic colours. Can you trace the NILE RIVER from the Mediterranean Sea down through Egypt and other countries below, with your finger? Where else can you see large rivers on the map. Can you match them to the country on the political map next to it?

Complete the following worksheet called LESSON 4. MAP SKILLS. COUNTRIES IN AFRICA. If you are in class, please trim this worksheet and stick it into your workbook. Please write the date at the top before you start. Complete the worksheet, including the colouring in. Please take the time to colour in carefully. If you are at home, you can download the worksheet on Google Classroom, and copy the table onto paper and email your work to me on Gmail. 

EXTENSION ACTIVITY 

If you have completed all the above, then you can complete this Quizzes activity. First, go through each country in Africa and try and remember where they are. It is quite a task to remember them all. At this age, you are only required to memorize South Africa's neighbours. But it is still important to know about our wonderful continent. Try and get as many answers right without looking back at the map for help! :)
