Library Policies & Gentle Reminders
Our students may have up to three books out at a time for up to three weeks, during the school year. We ask that students try to return their books on time so that other students may have a chance to borrow them.
If you have three books out you may either return a book to borrow another or you may ask to put one on hold.
If you haven't finished the book in three weeks, you may bring the book in and ask to have it renewed.
We recommend that students keep their books in their backpacks or find a special place to keep them at home (like on a counter or bookcase in their room or in a family room; and out of reach of young siblings and pets).
Students should keep books safe while they are in their care. (For example, not putting a water bottle inside a backpack with library books, not eating over a library book, not leaving a borrowed library book outside in the hot sun or rain, not taking borrowed books on trips, camping or to the beach, etc.)
We remind students with hard-copy notices when books are overdue. We are also planning to email families courtesy notices when items are overdue. We will keep you posted when we start that process.
We do not charge late fees for returning books that are overdue, but we do need to charge for a book if it must be replaced for damage or if it is lost. (We consider a book lost if it is not returned after 90 days, if you are charged and then find the book(s), we are unable to offer refunds. You may either keep the book or donate it back to the library.)
We accept donations of new books and gently used books on a case by case basis. Please contact the library if you have any questions.
Summer borrowing requires a signed permission form from a parent in order to borrow books over the summer. Please contact the library if you have questions about summer borrowing.
