Online Transition Pack
At the end of July 2024 you will be sent a link to our virtual transition pack which will allow you and your child an opportunity to be introduced to key members of staff and provide you with the practical information you may need in your preparation for the new academic year.
Transition Activity Week
We will be hosting a week of after school transition lessons that will introduce our new cohort of students to some of the exciting lessons that they will be enjoying at The Halley when they join us in September. This will take place from 24th June until 28th June 2024.
Year 7 Induction Day, Wednesday 3th July 2024
Your child will be invited to a transition day before the summer break where they will have the opportunity to start making new friends, engage in exciting transition lessons and meet members of staff and students. Children will often feel much more confident and reassured about the move after their 'Induction Day' has taken place and they will be eager to start in September 2024.
Transition Summer School (19th - 21st August 2024)
We are delighted to announce that we will be delivering a Transition Summer School this year from Monday 19th to Wednesday 21st August 2024.
During the Year 7 Transition Summer School, students will take part in a range of team-building, curricular and creative activities. Students will also participate in a series of taster sessions in a variety of subjects offered at The Halley Academy. This will be an exciting opportunity for Year 7 students to get a taster of what is to come from September 2024.
SEND liaison with Primary Schools
Our team is working in close consultation with all primary schools to ensure that we have all the required information to support your child’s academic progress.
Our Halley Academy Inclusion Team will:
Work closely with our feeder primary schools to ensure that all SEND students feel comfortable and confident with their transition to The Halley Academy.
Ensure students with SEND have the opportunity to undertake extra visits to the academy in order to familiarise themselves with the environment and some of the staff they will be working with in the future.
In some cases, also liaise with the primary school and parents/carers to arrange a longer transition program which starts earlier in the summer term.
Ensure students identified by their primary schools as having SEND, take part in additional induction and transition activities with the academy SENCo and Learning Support Assistants.
If students are joining The Infinity Hub at the academy, they will undertake additional visits to the hub to meet the Infinity Hub's LSAs.
The Infinity Hub staff will also visit students in their primary school.
Ensure that in the summer term of Year 6, The Halley Academy SENCo meets with the SENCos of all the primary feeder schools to discuss Year 6 students with SEND, enabling the academy to have all relevant information in advance.
Use this as an opportunity to identify students who would benefit from additional interventions and support with their learning, or their personal development and wellbeing, and plan provision and interventions accordingly in advance of their first day.
