Year 6 Transition
2026
2026
At Leigh Academy Halley we are guided by our inclusive values and intrinsic characteristics of Respect, Achievement, Collaboration, Integrity and Resilience in everything we do. Academic success and personal development for our students are our priorities. We are committed to delivering an education of excellence for all, equipping students with the knowledge, qualifications and experiences they need to play an active and informed role in society, and to lead successful and fulfilling adult lives. Our students are inquisitive, articulate and resilient, defined by their boundless thirst for knowledge, self-improvement and learning.
We are delighted to welcome you to our academy family, benefiting from excellent teaching, our small-school model of pastoral care which values each child’s unique needs, and an unprecedented investment in our learning environment which we have been able to secure as part of a highly successful multi-academy trust. All of our Year 7-11 students receive their own Chromebook device to support their learning in the classroom and at home. We are an IB World School, offering an exciting, innovative and rewarding curriculum. Students benefit from our state-of-the-art STEM Centre, a modern sports complex, a number of cutting edge science laboratories, a state-of-the-art visual and performing arts centre (opened in June 2024), and modern new playground spaces. It is a privilege to welcome your child to join a proudly diverse, caring and collaborative learning community where everybody is supported to achieve and empowered to be the best version of themselves.
This is an exciting time for students to be joining us. In autumn 2025, we were one of the first schools in the country to be inspected under the new Ofsted framework, and we were delighted to be recognised as a national centre of excellence: we were awarded the rare exceptional judgement in attendance and behaviour, inclusion, leadership and governance, personal development and well-being, and post-16 provision. Inspectors recognised that the Academy’s work has a “phenomenal” impact on students’ lives, reporting that students “achieve, thrive and feel a deep sense of belonging”. The full report can be found here. In addition to this, we have recently been awarded Steplab Coaching Hub status, due to the quality of our professional development programme for all staff, and our commitment to evidence-based teaching. In January, we were also one of a handful of schools nationally to be recognised by the Secretary of State for Education for the impact of our work on the outcomes and achievements of disadvantaged students. These external accolades are a testament to the special and unique learning community that your child will be joining this September.
Our aim is to ensure the transition from primary to secondary school is as smooth and seamless as possible. We are to ensuring that you have the information about academy life so that all of our new Year 7 students feel positive about starting their secondary learning journey with us.
Leigh Academy Halley is a place of opportunity where respect, resilience, integrity and collaboration matter. We are a caring community where everyone feels safe, valued and empowered to explore, experience and achieve. We are proud, articulate, confident, independent learners equipped to take our place in wider society.
We expect you to share in our vision and uphold our values. Leigh Academy Halley is a place of learning and we want you to achieve your best whilst you are with us.
This site has been designed to compliment our main website and to be a primary point of contact for all things relating to the transition process, such as questions, information and transition activities.
We have a number of pages for families to discover which will help prepare our future students for the next chapter in their academic journey, transitioning from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 at Leigh Academy Halley. This will prepare our students and families for what is expected when they join us in September 2026.
We will regularly update this page when we are approaching an important event and when we wish to communicate key information, so please continue to access this site to keep up to date with our transition programme.
