Part-Time Assistant / After School Teacher ($500 Signing Bonus)
Summary
The Garland School is seeking part-time Assistant and After School Teachers with an interest in wilderness and play-centered education who will work with children ages 1-6 in various classrooms. These positions support our teachers throughout the day and provide care during our after care program. The part-time assistant will work from 12:00 - 5:00, Monday - Friday. Set among 200 acres of forest and streams, our Waldorf-inspired school emphasizes year-round immersion in nature including trail walking, woods exploration, gardening, and seasonal Waldorf festivals. All teachers at Garland are welcomed into a community that prioritizes care and mutual aid. In addition to a competitive salary we offer four weeks of paid vacation, professional development stipends, mentorship stipends, a supplemental insurance plan, paid personal and sick time, and local and organic breakfast and lunch served daily. This position comes with a $500 signing bonus and will begin in September 2022, with opportunity for training in August 2022.
Responsibilities:
While Waldorf inspired and nature-based, our teachers are invited to design a classroom environment that speaks to their interests, strengths and vision of early childhood education. The part-time assistant will be expected to support the lead teachers and provide after school care with attention to the emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child.
Other responsibilities include:
Incorporate meaningful work (gardening, handwork, cleaning, cooking) into the rhythm of the day, in support of the Waldorf values of mirroring the home environment
Collaborating with the lead teacher to communicate with parents about their child daily.
Serving the home cooked meal prepared by the school’s chef or afterschool snacks from home.
Keeping the classroom clean and tidy and caring for materials and toys.
Washing end of the day snack dishes along with other light custodial duties like taking out the trash, vacuuming or sweeping.
Salary and Benefits:
$15-$18 hourly depending on experience

Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and have prior experience working with young children. Successful applicants will be subject to a background check.
Substitute Teachers
The Garland School is seeking substitute teachers. Substitutes work alongside a classroom teacher. We are a small early childhood program in Brattleboro, VT, serving ages 1-6. Our school emphasizes time outdoors and in the forest. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking an introduction to Waldorf-inspired work with young children, and/or working with children outdoors in all weather. Teachers receive breakfast and lunch at the school!
Must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and have prior experience working with young children. Successful applicants will be subject to a background check.

Lead Teacher, ages 3 - 5

In addition to a competitive salary we offer seven weeks of paid vacation, paid personal and sick days, a supplemental insurance plan, professional development stipends, mentorship stipends, support for the TEACH grant, and local and organic breakfast and lunch served daily. This position comes with a $1,000 signing bonus and will begin in late June 2022.
Responsibilities

She/He/They will be expected to lead the classroom with the help of an assistant with attention to the emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child.
Other responsibilities include:
Holding a weekly rhythm of activities that encourage imaginative play and creative expression
Creating and leading daily circle time with fingerplays, songs, and movement games
Incorporate meaningful work (gardening, handwork, cleaning, cooking) into the rhythm of the day, in support of the Waldorf values of mirroring the home environment
Communicating with parents about their child daily and writing a weekly summary
Collaboratively organizing four seasonal festivals
Serving home-cooked meals prepared by the school’s chef.
Keeping the classroom clean and tidy and caring for materials and toys

35-40k ($17-$20 hourly) depending on experience

Assistant Teacher

The Garland School is seeking assistant teachers to work in our Waldorf-inspired, nature-based program starting in summer or fall 2022. Each assistant will work alongside a school-year teacher. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking an introduction to Waldorf-inspired work with young children, and/or working with children outdoors in all weather.
This teacher will work with children age 3-5. This position involves work within both a play-based classroom setting and outdoors on the 200 acres of forest and stream surrounding our school. Teachers should be prepared to be outside in all weather, including eating some meals outside.
Along with nature immersion and Waldorf-inspired principles, the school's educational philosophy incorporates the work of Emmi Pikler and Helle Heckmann. Our outdoor time includes walking the trails, exploring the woods, working in the vegetable garden, and wading in the stream. We serve a local and organic breakfast, lunch, and snack daily. We follow a seasonal rhythm in our curriculum and have four Waldorf-inspired festivals per school year.
Job Type: Full-time or part-time, starting in summer or fall 2022.
Priority will be given to candidates with the following:
High school diploma or GED
3 college credits in early childhood or related field
Waldorf-related training or experience
Experience sharing the outdoors with children
Interest in pursuing VT early childhood teaching pathway or VT educator licensing

Summer Cook
The summer cook prepares food for three meals per day for approximately 24 children and 4-6 teachers.
The summer menu includes fresh, summery meals and seasonal ingredients.
Tasks for the summer cook are to shop, prep, and fill the kitchen fridge with the week's food ahead of time. (The teachers access the meals daily from the fridge on their own.)
Additional tasks include tracking expenses, mileage, and number of meals served.
Garland has a credit at Walker Farm in Dummerston, for farm-fresh veggies. Garland also maintains an account at the Brattleboro Food Coop.
The summer program for children runs June 27 - August 12.
Orientation and training for this position will happen prior to June 27.
This position is for 8 hours/week, flexible schedule. The summer cook can do the shopping and prep whenever they are able; it does not need to be when teachers and children are present.
