Classroom Aide, ages 2-3

The Garland School is seeking a 1:1 Aide with an interest in nature and play-centered education who will work with children ages 2-3 years starting immediately. The 1:1 Aide will support inclusion within the group environment of our nature-based program. In this vital role, you will work with all the children in the class, including one with special medical and behavioral needs, to foster their development, ensure their safety, and promote a positive experience of being in childcare. The 1:1 Aide will collaborate closely with the Lead and Assistant Teachers as part of a teaching team, to implement strategies that address developmental and behavioral needs and enable children to access the Garland School curriculum fully. This role is perfect for a passionate individual eager to make a lasting impact while developing their skills in early childhood education. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking an introduction to nature-based work with young children, and/or working with a child with special medical needs. 

The hours of this position are 10am-5pm, Monday-Friday, with a paid break.

Set among 200 acres of forest and streams, our school emphasizes year-round immersion in nature including trail walking, woods exploration, gardening, and seasonal festivals. Staff at Garland are welcomed into a community that prioritizes care and mutual aid. This is a grant-funded, one-year position with the possibility of extension or being hired permanently after the grant term ends.

Responsibilities:

• Support the activities of the group, as led by the lead teacher and assistant teacher

• Work with the teaching team to provide support to a child with special medical & behavioral needs

Requirements: 

• High school diploma or GED

• 1 year of experience working with children, including ages 3 and under

• Team player; enthusiastic about working with other adults and taking care of children and the school environment.

• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with staff, parents, and specialists

Helpful to have:

• Experience sharing the outdoors with children or interest in learning

• Familiarity with the Pyramid Model, Early MTSS, Seed & Sew, Nurtured Heart, or other positive behavior support model

Substitute Teachers

The Garland School is seeking substitute teachers starting IMMEDIATELY. Substitutes work alongside a classroom teacher. We are a small early childhood program in Brattleboro, VT, serving ages 1-6. Our school emphasizes time outdoors and in the forest. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking an introduction to Waldorf-inspired work with young children, and/or working with children outdoors in all weather. Teachers receive breakfast and lunch at the school!

Must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and have prior experience working with young children. Successful applicants will be subject to a background check.

Job Types: Temporary

Pay: $19.00 per hour
