Short Creative Writing Middle School

As part of our study of writing and language, students spend time free writing several times a week. 

Students are given a prompt and we set a timer for 5 - 10 minutes. During this time students are encouraged to write as much as they can on the topic, without stopping.  We aren't focused on proper grammar, spelling or punctuation during this writing sprint.  

As the school year came to a close students were asked to go back and choose one of their favorite writing pieces from these experiences.  We then revised and edited slightly these pieces of writing.  

What you see here are writing samples written in response to writing prompts.  You will see a wide variety of topics and voices.
