We started out the school year learning about the scientific method. Students learned the difference between observations and inferences and practiced forming and testing out hypotheses during laboratory investigations. A favorite lab was investigating the effect of decreased sense of smell on the sense of taste. We tested various candies. As the school year progressed we have covered plate tectonics by reconstructing Pangea, looked at the rock cycle with hands on labs and a mini- project on types of rocks and studied plate boundaries and their associated movements with a lab involving icing and graham crackers that illustrated the formation of volcanos and earthquakes. The students have also created models of specific volcano types and learned to accurately predict the epicenter of earthquakes using triangulation. We have just started a unit on Earth's Freshwater. It's been a great year so far!
