SSB Rules and Policies
Code of Conduct
All Summer Springboard Students are required to agree and abide by the Code of Conduct. Violation of the Code of Conduct can result in expulsion from the program.
Student Boundaries
For students’ own safety, Summer Springboard requires students to stay within a prescribed boundary.
The boundary map for NYSID will be posted 2 weeks out from the start of classes.
Between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm, students are allowed outside of the Housing complex, but they must stay within the assigned boundaries.
Outside of these hours students must be inside/on-campus unless attending official programming that requires them to be elsewhere.
If students are found outside the boundaries, these privileges can be revoked for the entire student body. Repeat offenders can be dismissed.
While on excursions, boundaries will also be set, and students may not leave these boundaries.
If students find themselves lost at any time, they should immediately call their Mentor or Campus Director for assistance.
Groups of Three
Whether on an excursion or off-campus (but within the dormitory and classroom boundaries), students should never travel alone. Students should always travel in groups of three or more.
Socializing
We encourage students to spend time together during the program, however the following boundaries must be maintained:
Commuter students may not enter dorm rooms. Students may socialize in the dormitory courtyard, in the lounges, or in other common areas where program activities occur.
During optional evening events, residential students may socialize in a dorm suite of their same gender, or in other common areas designated for Summer Springboard use.
To ensure the safety of all participants, male students are not permitted in the rooms or in dormitory areas designated for female students and vice versa. Any student found violating this rule may be sent home at his or her expense.
Residential Students Only
Living in the Dormitory
The following policies apply to residential students:
Students will be assigned to a double room, and each room will share a bathroom with another en-suite-style room.
Students cannot switch rooms and must spend the night in their rooms.
In keeping with Summer Springboard policy for summer programs, we ask that students be inside the building by 9:30 pm (unless otherwise advised by residential staff) and keep loud noises to a minimum.
Please keep all common spaces and lounges clean and do not leave supplies, food, or trash.
After Mentor Check, please keep the noise down and be conscientious of students who may be sleeping.
Students are responsible for any costs incurred due to room damage or lost keys. Cost per lost key is $75 dollars.
Please be respectful of other people who may be living in the building, as well as the university housing staff.
Curfews
9:30 pm - All students must be inside the dormitory. Students should not be outside unless they are attending a scheduled activity until the following morning.
10:30 pm - All students must be in their room for Mentor Check. Once Mentor Check is complete, students must remain in their suites and may only leave in the event of an emergency or to visit the Mentor on Duty.
Bedroom Checks
Students must be in their room each night at the time designated for Mentor Check. This starts at 10:30 pm.
Students must be awake and present so they can be seen by their Mentor.
Commuter Students Only
Summer Springboard staff will not allow commuter students to check-out on their own unless given authorization to do so in the student/family dashboard. Students who are not given permission to check-out on their own will need a parent or authorized individual present with proof of identification in order for them to check-out.
