I use many different indicators to measure my students' growth, and I provide a variety of opportunities to encourage and nurture that growth inside and outside of our classroom. In this part of my portfolio, I detail how my students have engaged in access opportunities that I have organized in order to provide them with experiences they may not otherwise have. I also explain how I instill positive habits and mindsets which motivate them to learn, as well as how I have taught them about inequity and how they can advocate for themselves. Finally, I analyze their academic growth to prove how all of the systems I have created work together to support all of my students.
This section explores different resources, programs, and connections that I have provided for my students and their families this year. These include a trip to the fire station to learn about fire safety, creating a school garden, and implementing a parent outreach night. I created all of these resources to provide my students with better access to a variety of opportunities.
This section discusses different habits, character traits, and values I have encouraged in my students and the activities I created to instill these values. These include gathering data in a multi-sensory way, listening to others and showing empathy, and finding humor in daily life.
This section explains how I have helped my students understand the injustice of them not having access to early literary tools provided by the public library and a school library. Here, I detail how I arranged a pubic librarian visit to our school to sign all of my students up for library cards and arranged and created a school library on our campus with student input.
This section interprets my student data throughout the year and examines the dramatic growth that my students have made this year. I review data from three math benchmarks my students took in October, January, and March, both as whole class data and with two student examples. I also compare three students' writing samples throughout the year to our growth rubric and explain what steps I've taken instructionally to help each child meet our goals.
