Staff and students all really enjoyed our first full year in our new building and many improvements have were. The pictures above show off the amazing progress in our garden this year. When transferring them all from our old place in Ferry Road, James transplanted the fruit trees and roses into our new areas. We were not sure if they would take but here is the proof that the soil and care taken has worked its magic. Also, the new vegetable gardens that were set up and planted this year have produced many vegetables for us to try. A great success all round that helps with whakatutkitanga when achieving positive goals at school.
School Trips
We enjoyed many trips this year. We enjoyed our yoga sessions throughout the year on Mondays, with Letesha, and Aquacise in terms 1 and 4 at Pioneer Stadium. The trip up the Gondola in term 1 was a new experience for the mothers. We were treated to a Margaret Mahy visit, mini-golf, ten-pin bowling, beach walking, and visiting the A and P Show, with the babies, to see the animals.
Red Cross 3 Day Course In Term 4
There was a good turnout with all staff and mothers participating for their full certification. This is a great opportunity to gain first hand knowledge and skills for the health and safety of everyone. Our value of aronga is key here for the mothers and their babies.
Collaboration
Collaboration between the Early Learning Centre and Kimihia Parents’ College was extended this year. Every Monday in term 4, Level 2 and 3 go over to the ELC and create a play session with the children. The staff at the ELC support the mothers and staff with this event. The ELC Manager is a great support to us all. Two students visit the ELC on Tuesdays to teach a waiata with actions so the children can perform for the prizegiving at the end of the year. A big thank you to Aalariah and Kaydence for their leadership in this event. This is showing our values hononga and whakatupua in action when creating connections and striving for personal growth.
Success
Congratulations to all the students who have passed their NCEA goals this year. A big thanks to James Abbott as the barista girls were successful at Ara again, and his numeracy push. Also thanks to Bianca for her push with literacy.
I wish everyone a wonderful relaxing holiday and thank all Kimihia staff again for their continued commitment.
