Jazz Shoes
All students in grades 6-8 are required to get jazz shoes for class. Please see the links below for examples of black jazz shoes for purchase. If your feet are more narrow, the black lace-up can work because you can tighten the shoe around your foot, but they are usually more expensive. If you plan to dance every year and in high school, consider that a better quality shoe might last longer. The black slip-on jazz shoes work well for class and are usually more affordable. These are not the only options, but they are examples. You must have black jazz shoes by November 9, 2026. When looking for shoes, also be aware that the price is dependent on the jazz shoe size.
When looking for your size on Amazon, first read the reviews on the shoe!! Usually, it's safe to go about 2 sizes up from your street shoe size, and if you anticipate a growth spurt go 3 sizes up. For example, if you normally wear a 7, get a 9 or 10. The shoe should fit comfortably and the toes should not be squished or crunched in the front of the shoe.
Google "black jazz shoes adult" or black jazz shoes kids" to get a lot of other places to buy online. One in person store that is ia good resource is The Dance Bag on Route 17.
If, after looking at several options none are within your means, please email Ms. Butler dbutler@teaneckschools.org for support.
Students must wear jazz shoes for jazz choreography, and performance of jazz pieces.
Students sometimes leave their shoes around the studio. It's important to keep them in your locker, or put them away before leaving dance class!
To avoid taking someone else's shoes by accident, label your shoes with tape and sharpie!
