Class Overview

Fifth grade students are going to learn a few different styles for the marking period that they are in dance. As they learn to move their bodies in a safe way, while exploring the physical limits of the body, they will be challenged to try new things each time they come into the studio. 

Students in grades six through eight have the privilege of choosing dance, and are therefore challenged at different levels. By the time dance students graduate 8th grade, they will have a thorough understanding of the body, and different styles of dance, i.e. jazz, contemporary, hip hop and choreography. Students will also get a historical context of dance and the impact it had on society and vice versa. Dance has the potential to touch all subject areas and bring students to a new level of awareness about the world and themselves.
