The vision for this program is not only to be an educational space outside of school hours for students to conduct the fun activities that are not completed in class, but also to be a mentorship program where our middle-schoolers can connect with college students and professional adults working in STEM fields. Your role is critical to providing a window into what STEM looks like outside of the walls of our classroom for our bright, young STEM learners.
There are 2 methods of volunteering: Mentors & STEM Career Day professionals. Read below for more information about each role.
Who we are looking for in Mentors:
are 18+ y/o and currently enrolled in a college program
have some background or interest in the STEM field
able to commit one hour a week to help with the STEM Enrichment Academy
have a desire to instill in eager students a love for STEM
no prior educational/tutoring experience is necessary, just a positive attitude!
Responsibilities as a Mentor:
At each weekly program meeting, you will be assigned a small group of students (3-4). In a virtual setting, this will take place in a Breakout Room over Zoom.
You will facilitate that day's activity with your group by answering questions, overseeing their progression, and guiding them through the activity.
Mentors will also act as resources for the students to ask personal questions about various non-STEM topics, including applying to college, choosing a major, career prospects.

Who we are looking for to help with STEM Career Days (professionals only):
have experience/currently working in any STEM field, such as health care, research, tech/startups, engineering, environmental science/conservation

Responsibilities as a STEM Career Day Professional:
• Attend a one hour STEM Career Day for STEM Enrichment Academy at HMMS students at least once a year (final dates TBD).
• Provide a 5-10 minute overview of your career to the whole group-- how your career involves STEM, your journey to choosing this career, what responsibilities your career entails, etc.
• Professionals will then break out into smaller student groups (5-10 students each) to field more individualized questions. This will be conducted via Breakout Rooms through Zoom.
If you are interested in becoming a STEM Career Day guest speaker or want to request more information, please fill out the Google Form below.
