Students must use their assigned device solely for educational purposes. Modifying the configuration of hardware or software is not allowed
All devices are monitored and filtered according to district policies. KUSD regularly reviews usage through installed filtering and monitoring software
Updating your Device
All student devices receive updates to improve security and performance. Here’s how to make sure your device stays current
Chromebooks
Chromebooks automatically update to the latest version of Chrome OS.
To install updates fully, you must completely power off the device (do not just close the lid)
Upon restart, new settings and updates will apply from the District
Windows Laptops
Updates are typically installed automatically overnight
Start > Settings > Windows Update
Click Check for updates to install any pending ones
iPads
Open Settings > General > Software Update
If an update is available, tap Download and Install
How to Check Chrome OS Version:
Click the time in the bottom-right corner
Click the Settings
Scroll down and click About ChromeOS
You’ll see the current version and a button to Check for Updates
Device Extensions and Apps
Extensions (on Chromebooks and laptops) and apps (on all devices) help improve learning and organization. Only approved apps/extensions may be installed
Chromebook Apps and Extensions
Access via the Chrome Web Store – KUSD Collection
Only approved items will be visible on managed devices
iPad and Laptop Apps
Apps are pre-installed or pushed by the district
Students cannot install their own apps unless approved
Procedure for Restoring the Device
Technical support for the operating system is handled by the school’s TST (technician)
If a student is unable to login to the assigned Chromebook and/or unable to connect to the school network - the student should notify the building TST
If the device is not launching correctly to allow for student login; the student should notify the building TST
