Q: Do you need Internet access to use a Chromebook?
A: Chromebooks work best with an internet connection, but some features can be used offline.
What works without Wi-Fi:
Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets (if set up ahead of time)
Gmail viewing and drafting. Sending will wait until reconnected.
Some apps and assignments
Important Note:
Any work done offline will not sync or save to the cloud until the Chromebook connects to Wi-Fi again. That means the student should reconnect as soon as they can.
Q: How do I connect the Computer to the wifi at home?
A: Click the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right, choose your home network, and enter the password.
Q: I don't have access to wifi at home. Can you help me?
A: Yes, if your family does not have reliable internet at home, KUSD may be able to provide alternative solutions.
What you can do?
Many public places like libraries, coffee shops, and community centers offer free Wi-Fi.
Your school may also be able to provide an alternative route to accommodate specific circumstances/needs. Contact your school office.
Q: Can my child download any additional apps or games?
A: No. Only School-Approved apps and extensions are allowed.
Q: Is my child's email monitored?
A: Yes. KUSD monitors all student accounts for safety and proper use.
Q Can I use any charger for my Device?
A: No, Please only use the charger that is provide with the device.
Why it matters
Using the wrong charger can damage the battery or overheat the device.
some chargers do not provide enough power or charge very slowly.
Non official chargers may cause electrical issues.
Tips
If the original charger is lost or damaged, contact your school’s computer technician team to get the correct replacement.
Don’t share chargers between device types (iPad, Chromebook, HP laptop) they may look similar, but they work differently.

Q: Can I opt my student out of receiving a Chromebook?
A: The Chromebook is a necessary tool to be used in the instruction process. Parents and students cannot opt out of a District issued Chromebook/Device. The student will be required to use a device during the school day for educational purposes.
Q: Will students be able to keep their Chromebooks over the summer?
Q: Is there an option to buy the Chromebook?
A: No, Chromebooks issued by KUSD are not available for purchase.
Q: Who else can use my student’s device?
A: No one is authorized to use another student’s assigned device.
Q: Does a Chromebook need virus protection?
A: Chromebooks are designed so that they do not require virus protection. Additionally, the devices are monitored by the district filtering and firewall (hardware and software), both in and outside of the district network.
