Tis the season, Longhorn family!
This time of year marks a major milestone for our band students—our journey to the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. Think of UIL as the music equivalent of the STAAR test: an annual assessment that upholds the standards of music programs across Texas. We have a strong history of earning top ratings, and we are excited to continue that tradition!

This is the real deal—our students will be formally evaluated and ranked. Because appearance is part of our score, it is very important that students are dressed appropriately.
If your student needs assistance with shirts or pants, please let a director know as soon as possible so we can help.
Please note: we are not able to provide belts, socks, or shoes.
If you would like a more detailed description of the events and requirements.. please click the 'INSTRUMENTS' tab at the top and then click 'HONOR BAND'. It'll have additional information that you may be looking for. If you still have questions, please email Mrs. Trevino at Hannah.Trevino@fwisd.org
This is an optional event for your student to play a song at the Student Success Sessions! They will have a brief audition on 2/11/26, and if they can play their music correctly, they will be given their performance time. This performance time is determined by the time that parents have signed up for meetings with Leonard Staff. If you haven't already signed up for a time, please reach out to your students teacher ASAP.
Please click the button below to watch the Spring Parent Meeting! This has useful information for all students and parents.
Congratulations to our pep band members! These students are going to represent the band at pep rallies, football games, and more!
We have been asked to play at the remaining Leonard football games. There will be transportation provided, but please be patient regarding times because I haven't been sent that information yet. Here are the dates below:
October 14
October 21

November 4
Pep Band students are responsible for bringing water and learning their pep band songs. If a student wants a practice tool for their songs, they will need to log onto musicfirst.
9/26/25
Who is participating?
All current 8th grade students in the Leonard Band Program
Where is 8th grade night?
This year we are going to bus our 8th grade students to Handley Stadium on the east side of Fort Worth
What is 8th grade night?
This is an amazing opportunity for our 8th graders to get an idea of what marching band is like. They have been learning songs that they will get to play in the stands with the Western Hills Marching Band! Then, during halftime, our Longhorns will play 'Crunch Time' on the field!
How long is 8th grade night?
We will be staying at the football game from kickoff to the end of haltime. Parents are welcome to attend, and you can take your child home after the performance. We will bus our students back to Leonard following the performance if parents are unable to go to the game.
Will my child be fed?
The marching band will provide snacks, and if your student participates in afterschool program they may get a snack. If you would like for them to have dinner, that must be brought to the school. I ask that all 8th graders stay with me after school until departure.
What do they wear?
They will need their 25-26 8th grade gray shirt that was provided for them this year. They will need to wear blue jeans and athletic/closed toed shoes. If the forecast has high temperatures around 6 pm we will allow our students to wear athletic shorts.
What does my child need?
They will need their instrument, binder, and a water bottle.
