What I learned from the video on Rich Tasks by Allen Luke?
The school and the classroom environment is inclusive and promotes intellectual engagement of all the students. Individual students should see that their cultural backgrounds, learning preferences and needs are reflected all around them.
Collaborative teaching and learning are side by side. With meaningful learning outcomes, the students are engaged in the curriculum material within their capacity through differentiated instruction and assessment.
Engaging learning experiences ensure all students use higher-order thinking skills, solve complex problems, develop increased understanding, and construct new knowledge.
Learning experiences are engaging, promote collaboration, innovation and creativity. They are clear, meaningful, challenging, productive and they include problem-solving and critical thinking on a variety of issues.
Students have ownership of their learning and set SMART and ambitious goals.
Continuous support and ongoing feedback throughout the learning experience which motivates and encourages them.
Students voice their needs and wants.
Learning is deepened through authentic, relevant and meaningful student inquiry. Explicit teaching of concepts, processes and skills within inquiry supports students’ learning.
Enriched tasks in class should ask students to identify authentic problems and pose significant questions for investigations across all curriculum areas.
