There are many benefits to student-driven or student-centered learning that incorporates motivation and having the students actively learn the material themselves. It allows students to research themselves or work with their peers to learn the material. Independent Instructional approach increase interpersonal and collaboration skills can be learned in a cooperative learning activity. This approach increases construction in learning and developing community within the classroom through autonomy. In sum, it takes the teachers' responsibility of being the only original source of instruction to another level by involving individuals in the learning process more actively.
However, independent learning requires students to be intrinsically motivated and engaged to complete the work within a subject. It is an instructional strategy that requires dedication and time investment from the student too. Independent learning is challenging for students who are struggling with the material as they require assistance and guidance from the teacher to understand what the important information to understand is. This is how GRR methodology works to help teachers identify students who need help and differentiate their instructional material for allowing access to all learning in the same environment. It also allows teachers many opportunities for formative assessments; such as whole group or individual questioning, group and individual project work, and quizzes.
When all the students are engaged in an activity in their own capacity, which is interesting and challenging in the right amount, it is not likely that they will be causing any classroom management problems to deal with. On the contrary, the teacher will be around free to help anyone as a guide by their side.
