A Teacher’s Opinion On AI
By Abraham Dale
This is part two of my series about opinions on AI. In my first article, I covered students' opinions on AI. AI stands for Artificial Intelligence so artificial meaning technology and intelligence meaning something with a mind We talked with Ms. Sarah Dale, she teaches robotics, science, civics from TEACH-NW
"What is your opinion on AI?"
Dale: ”I think it can be a useful tool, but like all tools it can be dangerous just like fire or a hatchet is a useful tool that can be dangerous.” I also have gathered a quote from Britannica: “AI undermines critical thinking skills for students and adults alike.”
"What do you believe the harm with AI is?"
Dale: ”The harm with AI is it takes away creativity and the human brain needs to practice being creative so when we use AI for creative things like art or writing stories or even writing for ourselves then our brains atrophy and that’s gonna harm us humans.”
I then asked Ms. Dale about the possible cons of using AI.
"How do you think AI will affect the world in ten years?"
Dale: ”That’s a good question it’s kind of hard to say, cause it can go a couple of ways I say if we keep developing AI at the rate that we are there will be completely different jobs then what we have right now, I think it’s gonna really affect the job market so there will be new jobs we’ve never thought of before and there will be more jobs that we consider more normal now that will become obsolete.”
Let's look at a few more pros from Britannaca: “AI can make everyday life more enjoyable and convenient, while improving our health and standard of living.” Another quote from Britannica “Artificial intelligence can improve workplace safety.”
Maybe one day we can all live in peace with this new Artificial Intelligence but for now we can keep looking at pros and cons. Thank you for reading this article.
