Lillian Battey
My name is Lillian Battey. I am 14 years old and a freshman in high school. I attend TEACH-NW (my favorite teacher is Kim Good; she is amazing, 10/10 recommend). I am on the girls' varsity soccer team at Springfield High School as their full-time goalie (I am the only one who can use my hands, if you don't know what that means). I love soccer; I have been playing for 9 years, and I aspire to become a semi-pro or professional player someday. If I went semi-pro, I would like to play on the San Diego Wave team or the US national team, and if that doesn't work out, I want to be a traveling midwife. A midwife is a person, typically a woman, trained to help with childbirth. I want to be a midwife because my aunt is one, and she still has time for her family; it's also a more flexible job in the hospital. I would like a big family and to live in the countryside if I don't have to work.
If I had a superpower, I would like the ability to speak any language so I can communicate with any of my teammates who speak other languages. It would also be helpful if I were a midwife and had patients who speak other languages. I want to travel to many countries, help as many people as I can, and play soccer anywhere. If I had to choose a country to visit, I would like to go to Costa Rica because there are good soccer teams there, and I could also be a midwife there. Costa Rica is truly beautiful, and I would love to explore all its amazing places. You can make friends with locals, and they can show you the beautiful spots.
My dad played soccer when he was a kid, and my sister plays too, so it runs in the family. If I talked with a younger player, I'd say,” Play the position you love, no matter what, don't move positions just because someone else likes your position. That happened to me, and I regret it all the time.”
