For each assignment in the Brightspace Classroom, there is a place to enter marks. All assignments will produce 1 mark, regardless of whether the assignment was marked numerically or by rubric. In order to follow the Ontario Curriculum Guidelines with respect to evaluation strands (Knowledge, Thinking/Inquiry, Communication & Application, or KICA), weighting of these strands occurs WITHIN the assignment mark, then the overall mark is weighted in the total with respect to the curriculum expectations covered. This means that in an assignment where more than one evaluation (KICA) strand is being evaluated, they will have different weights within the assignment mark, in accordance with the weightings laid out in the course outline. This means that in a rubric, each row or evaluation (KICA) strand might be out of a different sum, reflecting the weight of that strand in the course.
In the end, this means (I believe) that the marks that you view will be much easier to understand and will show up in 2 different categories: Term Work and Summative Work.
All assignments will be submitted through Brightspace and will be marked within the Brightspace platform, giving everyone a streamlined experience. This will also allow students and parents/guardians to access and review marks 24/7 and in as close to real-time as possible!
