Bonjour tout le monde/Hello everyone!
For those who have yet to meet me, I am the teacher-librarian at Regal Road. I love working in the LLC (Library Learning Commons) and collaborating with teachers and students on all sorts of exciting projects. Getting books into the hands of students is very important, however, many things go on in the LLC besides book exchange. Take a tour of this website and keep up to date with the latest news page to learn more. The library learning commons door is always open! À bientôt j'espère!
School libraries extend far beyond a space to just store and check in and out books! Library Learning Commons or LLC's are a centralized hub of activity. LLC's are responsive, flexible, innovative, collaborative and student-centred learning spaces! An LLC is a place to support inquiry in students and meet, wonder, ask, find, create and share!
The LLC space is designed to accommodate the learning needs of all staff and students. It's a student-friendly, inclusive, safe and inviting atmosphere! All are welcome. The LLC supports and extends learning in the classroom through teaching partnerships, recreational reading programs and activities, or Makerspace/Laboratoire de Fabrication and inquiry/STEAM based learning and making.
As outlined in the document, Together for Learning: School Libraries and the Emergence of the Learning Commons: "The Learning Commons liberates the exploration of ideas and concepts, encouraging inquiry, imagination, discovery and creativity through the connection of learners to information, to each other and to communities around the world".
