How will Free Flow book exchange work?
Students will come to the LLC in groups of 4 during part of a homeroom period (e.g.: as part of literacy centres) during an open free flow LLC slot. Students can take out two books a week, or a day if they wish!! That's the beauty of free flow book exchange. We will start free flow for junior grades at first (in addition to regularly sceduled book exchange periods) and see how things evolve over time.
The free flow book exchange model provides students with more significant, frequent, and meaningful access to books and their library learning commons environment.
Free flow book exchange promotes and supports:
autonomy, learning skills (in particular independance and self-regulation), 21st century/global competencies
literacy skills
homeroom teachers using the LLC to extend classroom learning (e.g.: students gather information to support inquiry based learning)
real world connections/experience/skill building for the future
