Welcome to Co-op! To begin the course, it is important for you to understand the roles and responsibilities of a Co-op student. These come from The Ministry of Education policy document Cooperative Education and Other Forms of Experiential Learning, 2000. They are the same for all students in the province.

Co-op Student Roles and Responsibilities
The Ministry of Education policy document Cooperative Education and Other Forms of Experiential Learning, 2000 outlines the following student responsibilities.
A co-op student is expected to:
1. comply with all company rules regarding dress, safety codes, work schedule, and policies.
2. work in a courteous, responsible, and business-like manner and show appropriate initiative.
3. observe and comply with the placement and school rules and regulations, including confidentiality requirements.
4. comply with school attendance policies in both the placement and classroom sessions.
5. submit assignments as required.
6. inform the placement supervisor and the cooperative education teacher if they cannot report to their placements.
7. participate in the development and implementation of their personalized placement learning plans.
8. participate with their supervisors and teachers in assessing their own performances.
9. complete their course requirements to obtain credits towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
10. work with teachers and supervisors to ensure that problems are dealt with immediately.
Student Roles Reflection Assignment
Examine the list of student responsibilities.
Copy and paste them into a Word processing document and save them to your drive. Save it as: “Unit 1 A1”.
1. Rank them from those that will be the easiest for you to fulfill to those you think will be the hardest for you to fulfill.
2. Choose the two responsibilities that will be the most difficult for you & give reasons why you think you'll struggle with them (100 words).
3. Suggest at least two ways to overcome each possible challenge (100 words).
