Clean up your online presence now!
Social media applications are abundant. We need to use them wisely. Remember, everything you post online is PERMANENT. Even a three-second photo can be captured with a screenshot. Anyone who can see your photos, comments, and information can repost them.
Clean up your digital image now:
1. Review all your social media accounts. That means you need to look at all the photos, comments and information.
2. Delete anything that could compromise your image like inappropriate language, gestures, facial expressions, photos and content. If you aren’t sure, delete it.
3. Change privacy settings. Many social media sites allow you to restrict access to only certain groups. For example, you might be able to let only your family and friends see your posts but no one else will be able to see them.
4. Be Safe when you review your settings, don’t give too much personal information. For example, don’t include your school name, address, or workplace if you have a part-time job.
5. Search your name online. Other people might have posted items about you without your knowledge. If something looks unprofessional you can ask the person who posted it to take it down. You can also “report an issue” directly to the social media platform.
6. Keep it Clean what you post online from now on. Before you post, ask yourself, “Is this positive? Does this picture or information make me look professional and responsible? Is this kind or could it hurt someone’s feelings?
