Enhanced Pathways

We are particularly passionate about students embarking on their first years of high school on a positive note by teaching them the academic skills and habits that are integral for achievement. Our Grade 9 Enhanced Pathways Program focuses on high expectations, excellence, engagement, equity, and belief.

Students who have traditionally selected between the academic and applied level courses are placed in all academic level programming. This allows students the opportunity to learn and grow before making a pathway choice. With class sizes capped at 26 and a collaborative school-wide approach to elevate learning, we BELIEVE in your child and have HIGH expectations of them!

Due to our successes with the Grade 9 Enhanced Pathways Program, we have now continued this pathway into Grade 10.

French Immersion &
Extended French

Building on many years of experience with our Extended French Program, we are pleased to welcome French Immersion this year.

Additionally, students who are enrolled and complete one of these programs will obtain one of two designations:

  • Honours Certificate of Bilingual Studies in French Immersion; or

  • Honours Certificate of Bilingual Studies in Extended French.

Students have enrichment opportunities through workshops, special events, experiential learning and community events. For more information, visit the official Moderns Department Website of Oakwood CI.

Developmental Disabilities Education

The ISP (Intensive Support Program) at Oakwood Collegiate allows students to thrive in a safe and caring environment. Students follow the Alternative TDSB Developmental Disabilities Curriculum. Learning expectations are separated in four main instructional areas: Communication skills, Functional Academic skills, Activities of Daily Living skills and Social Skills. Additionally, students take part in Gross Motor and Art classes. There is a strong emphasis in the teaching of independence, intrapersonal, interpersonal and vocational skills.

Our students take part in organized school events and contribute to Oakwood’s overall community and culture.

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)

Specialist High Skills Major (also known as SHSM) is a ministry approved specialized program that allows students to focus learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements to graduate from secondary school.

We offer two different SHSM programs:

  1. Sports; and

  2. Arts & Culture.

Students enrolled in this program will learn specialized knowledge and skills, gain sector-recognized certification, engage in career-relevant training, and earn a Red Seal Diploma.

Experiential Learning &
Co-Operative Education

Oakwood's Co-Operative Education program supports senior students earning credits through work placements. We have developed a diverse range of Co-Op placements in our local community, which includes schools, arts organizations, community agencies and small businesses.

Additionally, co-op placements are a requirement for both the Sports and Arts & Culture SHSMs.
