Special Education support is available to any student with an Identification Placement Review Committee (IPRC) designation and/or an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Special Education support is available through the Learning Strategies (GLE) courses. GLE credits are part of the student’s timetable, and are offered in grades 9-12. These courses are designed to help students understand the content presented in various subjects, as well as enhance organization, time management, study skills, self-advocacy, thinking, problem-solving, career awareness, and social skills.
There are 2 levels of support at OCI. Please connect with your child's MART at their grade 8 school or the Special Education Department at OCI to see which level of support will meet your child's needs.
Indirect Support - the student's needs can be met in the regular class through the use of an Individual Education Plan and the regular classroom teacher will consult with the special education teacher as needed.
Withdrawal Support - the student's needs can be met in the regular class through the use of an Individual Education Plan and the student takes a Learning Strategies (GLE) course. Students may take GLE each year of secondary school and will receive elective credits towards their OSSD upon successful completion of the credit.
