Research Plots

Our research plots were created for a more freeform inquiry of Maple trees and sap production, and the trees selected from very specific spots in our sugar bush.  The Blue Research area is in the heart of the forest surrounded by mixed species including cedar, birch and hemlock.  The Green Research area is located on the edge of our alfalfa field and receives more sun than the blue counterpart.  Elevation and relative location is the same. We initially created the research areas to see if the environment affects sap production and quality.

As you can see with the compiled data to the right, the sugar content in Brix, is consistently higher in the Green Research Area.  Volume fluxuates, but seems to be overall greater in Green as well.  More research will yeild more significant results.

The Blue area is located east of the Green area deep in the Sugar Bush.

The Green Research Area is near a field and typically warms up sooner than the Blue.
