Malaria kills by the minute.
That is about 60 deaths every hour, about 10’000 deaths every week and around half a million deaths each year, ⅔ of which are children under the age of 5. Malaria has become a global issue due to its staggering mortality rates and the danger it inflicts on the thousands of families that live without sufficient protection. There is never a more urgent time to address this issue than now. It is time to take action.
This year, The C.I.T.Y. has partnered with Plan International Canada to run their Spread the Net Student Challenge. For every $10 that we raise, Plan International sends a kit containing a mosquito net, a t-shirt, and other supplies to areas where malaria is most prevalent. Each kit can support 2 people for up to 3 years of usage.
We set a starting goal of 50 kits, and after a week of fundraising, we collected more than $500, surpassing our initial amount. We have now raised our goal to 100 kits, as we are actively continuing this project until February.
