Jennifer: The most memorable thing I have done with CITY project wise would be Warm Up for Winter, because it was the most hands-on experience I have had in CITY. Yet, the most memorable moment I had would be going to the opening event of the WE Building. It was nice to see so many youths like the members of CITY interested in creating a change/difference in our society and the world.
Christina: For me, the most memorable thing I have done with CITY this year was definitely the visit to StreetHealth. Although I was aware of the positive impact the project would bring along the way of the fundraising event, as I have been using it as a personal motivation, it was a pretty incredible experience being there present to see the “front line” of those services StreetHealth provides and learn about how the staff, volunteers, and the non-profit overall serve the community.
Soliana: I think club involvement of any kind is an important part of the high school experience. It allows students to understand everyday issues outside of homework and meet deadlines outside of assignments. We start to understand management of time, organization and clear communication. More specifically with CITY, we have learned and continue to learn on how to be innovative social entrepreneurs. Clubs and team involvement spark a passion that can be turned into action.
Christina: I think it is important for youth to be involved in groups like CITY, which provide them an opportunity to be a part of an initiative focusing on something they feel passionate about. All CITY projects were stemmed from social or environmental issues students wish to do something for, and along the way we develop intangible assets such as teamwork and communication skills that could be easily transferred and utilized in other areas of our lives. All in all, I believe groups like CITY enable youth to develop a sense of responsibility as global citizens and create change by inspiring their peers and surrounding individuals with their voice and active participation.
Soliana: I think the whole team is super excited to do our service trip. I personally have been wanting to do a trip like this for so long and to be able to do it with a team that has grown largely in friendship will make it even more meaningful.
Jennifer: Continuing on in C.I.T.Y I hope to push and advocate for clean water around the world because it's such a big issue and such a crazy idea to think that something so readily accessible to us is so difficult for others to get. Water is so important and personally I think is one of the issues and if abolished, may diminish other issues that we have across the world. So raising money to build wells and funding finding ways to clean water. I wish to see C.I.T.Y work for education as well as health for others, such as build a town clinic or start up a school!
