My admiration assignment is on my favourite gymnast, Katelyn Ohashi. I admire her strength and perseverance to keep going after a series of injuries and the body shaming she received. The background represents the different textures and events in gymnastics; the blue felt is the floor, the popsicle sticks are the bars, the string is the trampoline, and the brown backdrop is the leather of the vault and beam.
My admiration assignment is a tribute to my mom. My mom has always been a constant in my life; every moment in my life, she was there for me, showing me unconditional love. I plan to pay my mom tenfold with everything she has given me, starting off with this small thank you.
This artwork is of the singer Chappell Roan. I admire her bravery and the queer representation she's bringing to the music industry. I used the medium of collage to show all her different looks from her drag stage persona. Under the clear layer of collaged makeup, is a photo of her with no makeup to show the separation between Kayleigh Rose Amstutz and the drag queen Chappell Roan.
This piece is of my Mom, who I admire because she is always there for me to help me through my struggles and make me laugh. I also admire her for how she challenges stereotypes and issues in her classroom. This piece has a dark black and white stippling portrait of her to show what others see - just a plain portrait - and the background is how I see her. Colourful and full of life, flowers and colours.
I chose to draw Hilda from the 1998 Brazilian series Hilda Hurricane. She is a complex character and has many admirable qualities. In my case, I admire her strength and resilience. She has the strength to stand up for herself even in situations where it feels like the whole world is against her, and by no means does that make her a bad person, even if that’s what everyone else thinks. I wish one day to be as strong as Hilda.
For my admiration, I chose Robert Smith of The Cure and his wife, Mary Poole. I chose them because it is very clear to see genuine and long-lasting love in them. They met in high school and have stayed together until this very day. A large part of the appeal of The Cure is Robert Smith’s lyricism, which is always very real. This is because he is writing about something very real to him, his love for his wife. We do not see this genuineness often in the media, so when I do see it, I have to admire it.
The reason why I picked Ralph Lauren is because when I was younger, I watched an interview where he was very family oriented and said that he wanted to become big to help his family.
Rosé is one of my all-time favourite singer-songwriters. She is extremely talented and hard-working, going above and beyond to support her fans and release high-quality, personal songs. What I admire the most about her and what my artwork is based on is her ability to show her vulnerability in her songs and show a side that most people are scared to show. She writes about sensitive moments of her life, sharing them with her fans and using it as a source of inspiration for her artistry. She doesn't let her hardship define her; instead, she uses it as a means of empowerment. That's why her songs resonate with so many people, including me.
My art piece focuses on Coco Chanel, a fashion designer who established a well known career for six decades in Parisian couture. Whilst she passed away in 1971, her designs and signature style has continued to live on. In 1910 she revolutionized fashion for women by creating the first ever suits for women and comfortable clothing, therefore getting away from corsets and clothes that were restrictive to women. As a woman in this era, I acknowledge that she was one of the women who modernized trends and expectations from women's wardrobe's, therefore leaving me in a privileged position where one can express themselves in any way they desire. "A girl should be two things: who and what she wants." - Coco Chanel
The person I admire is my friend Keyla. I chose her for this assignment because we have been friends for 10 years, she has been with me through my ups and downs, and she is the most supportive person ever. She is so sweet, caring and outgoing. She has impacted my life ever since we met. This is why I chose Keyla as a person I admire.
I chose to create the image of my dog Niko since I admire him for his unconditional love and affection, he is always excited to see me and he makes my days better.
My work is a collage of Avril Lavigne. I have listened to her music for a long time and not only do I admire her musical talents but I admire who she is as a person. She is confident, fashionable and smart. I think it's really important as a woman to have strong female role models who show you you can do anything you put your mind to, and Avril Lavigne is a perfect example of that.
My admiration assignment is an oil pastel work of my friend, Sienna (Sisi). Sisi and I have known each other our whole lives, and she has always been an inspiration for me. Sisi is more radiant than anyone else I know, and has always had the natural-born ability to put a smile on anyone's face. In this work, it is easily noticeable how big and bright her smile is, and I can even hear her laugh through the painting. Just like everybody, Sienna is not perfect and has struggled in her own way throughout her life, having dyslexia, competing very highly in her sport, etc.
Despite the challenges she encounters, she pushes herself so much harder than people realize because everything she does seems so natural and effortless. She always stays positive and looks for the good in situations and other people. Sisi has never found acts of kindness to be embarrassing or cheesy, so she goes out of her way to make the people loves feel seen and heard and always leaves me feeling better about myself. I am so lucky to have a person in my life like Sienna and I hope everyone meets someone like her at some point because their lives will never be the same.
The light my grandmother shines on the unknown paths she took, and the paths she is going to take.
This Toronto Maple Leafs collage has a significant and deep meaning to me. Ever since I was a kid, I have always viewed collages as fascinating pieces of artwork and have also grown up playing hockey and loving the Toronto Maple Leafs. This piece of art was my take on a Toronto Maple Leafs collage inspired by the team, the players and the fans. I have used different sizes, colours and players, which all come together to match my theme. I have also attempted to use the trick of third dimensions by creating three different columns for my photos.
The person I admire is Ranpo, Edogawa from the series Bungo Stray Dogs. I admire him because we share the same personalities as being silly, smart, and pretty much a person I can relate to.
The person I admire is my sister because she is a very kind person and she is a very hard working person and she has a lot of confidence and courage.
I drew an original character. Her name is Aliyah, and I drew her because I admire her selflessness, and care for others despite heavy adversity, and her own insecurities, and troubles. She is also the first character I've created and written, and has evolved throughout the years, further developing these characteristics of her.
The artistic mediums I used were chosen carefully to reflect Aespa’s futuristic and AI-driven concept. By incorporating digital art and vibrant, neon-like colors, I aimed to capture the essence of their music videos and stage performances. The images I included emphasized their duality, blending elements of their real-life personas with their AI counterparts, known as “ae” members. This concept is significant because it represents their group’s message of embracing technology while staying true to their own identities. The visuals also highlight their strong, independent image as a group that promotes confidence and empowerment. Overall, the artistic choices in my work align with Aespa’s branding and help bring their unique world-building concept to life.
