Welcome to Burnhamthorpe Adult Learning Centre's (BALC) Certificate Programs & Cooperative Education Website. Presently, BALC offers two certificate programs: Personal Support Worker (PSW) and Child Care Assistant (CCA). Students interested in these programs must have at least 70% in grade 12 English to be eligible. Our PSW program  an approved 27 week intensive program, taught by registered nurses and registered practical nurses. Our program content is also in line with the Personal Support Worker Training Standard of Ontario. Our CCA program is an 18 week condensed program which will allow graduates to work alongside ECE's and EA's.

BALC also offers a Cooperative Education program! Coop involves a partnership between education and professional organizations  that will allow for learners to gain valuable work experience and extend different learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. 

Students will now be able to brush up on their computer skills and take advantage of the Essential Skills Upgrading computer classes! Workshops are available in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Full time, part time, day or evening classes are available. Click HERE for more details.

We at BALC have your success and future in mind! Often times, students want to get their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), pursue nursing or early childhood education after completing one of the certificate programs. We currently have credit bundles available for those who want to take one of those paths! Either way, BALC can help you with your future! We look forward to welcoming you to our learning community!
