Welcome to Burnhamthorpe Adult Learning Centre's (BALC) Certificate Programs & Cooperative Education Website. Presently, BALC offers two certificate programs: Personal Support Worker (PSW) and Child Care Assistant (CCA). New to Burnhamthorpe, is the Introduction to Healthcare(Pre Health) program which is specifically geared towards pre PSW students! All students interested in the PSW program must register for regular classes first. During registration, students will be put on a Pre Health pathway that leads to entry into the PSW program during one of the other intakes that occur throughout the school year. NO STUDENTS WILL GO DIRECTLY INTO THE PSW PROGRAM. THE PSW PROGRAM GETS FILLED WITH INTERNAL STUDENTS ONLY. ALL APPLICANTS WILL GET PUT ON A PSW PATHWAY WHICH INCLUDES THE PRE HEALTH COURSE.

BALC also offers a Cooperative Education program! Coop involves a partnership between education and professional organizations  that will allow for learners to gain valuable work experience and extend different learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom.  

Students will now be able to brush up on their computer skills and take advantage of the Essential Skills Upgrading computer classes! Workshops are available in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Full time, part time, day or evening classes are available. Click HERE for more details.

We at BALC have your success and future in mind! Often times, students want to get their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), pursue nursing or early childhood education after completing one of the certificate programs. We currently have credit bundles available for those who want to take one of those paths! Either way, BALC can help you with your future! We look forward to welcoming you to our learning community!
